Terms
Last updated 23 October 2026
These terms cover the website speakshuo.com and the iPhone app Shuo: Learn Chinese. On your Home Screen the app is named Shuo. By using the website or the app, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy policy.
Who we are
Shuo is made by Beijing Xiaoweilai Network Technology Co., Ltd. (北京市晓未来网络科技有限公司). Write to us at [email protected]. Settings in the app links here and to the privacy policy.
The service
Shuo is a way to learn Chinese from short clips, practice on those clips, and ask Tina, a coach in the app. The website tells you what Shuo is and lets you join a waitlist. Features can change while the app is in TestFlight or before a public launch. A beta build can stop working, lose a feature, or be withdrawn.
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app and the website for your own learning. You do not own the app, the clips, the subtitles, or the character Tina. You may not copy the clips, resell access, scrape the service, or try to break or overload it. You may not reverse engineer the app except where the law forbids that limit.
Accounts
Watching clips does not require an account. The first time you open Tina, the app creates an anonymous account so chats can be saved. You do not choose a password. You are responsible for the phone you use Shuo on.
You can delete chats and memory in the app, and you can ask us to delete the account, as described in the Privacy policy. We may suspend access if you break these terms, if we have to by law, or if a beta ends.
What you send
You keep the rights to the text you send Tina. You give us permission to host that text, show it back to you, and send it to the companies named in the privacy policy, only so Tina can reply and remember what you asked her to remember. Do not send anything you do not have the right to send, and do not send someone else’s private information if you can avoid it.
Do not use Shuo to break the law, to harm someone, or to try to make Tina ignore these rules. We do not use your chats or recordings to train our own models. Details of who receives a message or a recording are in the Privacy policy.
Tina and the clips
Tina is software, not a person and not an official examiner. Replies can be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable. Shuo does not grade pronunciation or tones. Do not rely on Tina for an exam result, or for medical, legal, or other professional advice. Clips are learning material. Levels marked HSK are a guide to difficulty, not a certificate.
The waitlist
Joining the waitlist is optional. If you join, we email you when you can try Shuo and when it launches. We do not send unrelated mail. How we handle the email address is in the Privacy policy. A place on the list is not a promise that you will receive a TestFlight invite or that a feature will ship.
Shuo Plus
Clips, subtitles, and word lookup are free. Shuo Plus, when it is offered, is an optional subscription sold and billed by Apple, under Apple’s terms. Any price and any free trial are shown by Apple before you pay. We do not see your card number. You manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Privacy
The Privacy policy describes the microphone, the anonymous account, Tina, speech recognition, purchases, retention, and deletion. Those practices are part of these terms.
Disclaimers
The website and the app are provided as they are, especially during TestFlight. We do not warrant that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular exam. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not let us limit, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or rights you have as a consumer where you live.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China. Courts in Beijing have jurisdiction, except that this does not take away a mandatory right you have in the place where you live, including the right to bring a claim in your local courts where the law gives you that right.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and the new terms will be on this page. If you keep using Shuo after the update, you agree to the new terms. If you do not agree, stop using Shuo and email us to delete the account.
