For people with a Chinese partner or family
Turn nǐ hǎo into a real conversation.
Your partner's family speaks Chinese, and you want to really talk with them. Shuo is an iPhone app for the everyday conversations that get you there: small talk at a family dinner, catching up, making weekend plans. Practice them with AI characters first, then have them for real.
Sound familiar?
You've learned some Chinese. You understand more than you can say. But when it's your turn to talk, the words don't come.
“At family dinners I follow half of it. Then someone asks me a question, and I freeze.”
“My partner's parents are so patient with me. I want to say more than hǎo chī.”
“I want to talk with my in-laws without my partner translating every sentence.”
How it works
Short conversations with a clear goal. You don't recite a script. You get something done in Chinese.
Pick a real moment
Make weekend plans, swap languages with a new friend, recommend a film, turn down an invitation politely.
Talk for 3 to 5 minutes
Speak or type. The character answers like a person, not a quiz. Reach the goal and you're done. Perfect sentences not required.
Get one tip you can use
One clear suggestion after each conversation. Then the same moment comes back on day 3 and day 7, so it sticks.
Built for people who already know a little
You know some words. Shuo helps you use them with real people.
Help without penalty
Pinyin, English, listening help and step-by-step hints are always one tap away. Using help never lowers your level.
Honest progress
No points, no streaks, no made-up scores. See what you practiced, and what you can now do on your own.
A path, not random drills
24 chapters, from meeting people to sharing your opinion, plus free-talk topics like ordering takeout and your weekend.
Characters with personality
Lin plans everything. Zhou Yu is a shy student learning English. A Jie can't talk about a movie without shouting.
